Quartito Azul

Quartito Azul are an intense and vivid four piece tango band comprising violin, clarinet/guitar, piano and bass. Their music combines the art of classical tango with the raw heart of a Buenos Aires back street, bringing together the raw elements of traditional bordello tango, the more jazz-influenced style of Astor Piazzolla, and the gritty sounds of the gypsies.

Musicians from diverse backgrounds the inspiration that drew the quartet together was a mutual love of tango.

Violinist Andi Aldam is a professional violinist and composer working in Adelaide. She has won various performance prizes and was granted several commissions (ABC and Australia council) to compose new works, during and after studying violin at Elder Conservatorium. Since then she has performed and toured with three Australian Symphony orchestras and freelanced widely. Extremely versatile in her playing style, she is now drawn predominantly to the music of tango.

Pianist Fiona Hill is an experienced dance accompanist having worked for the Victorian College of the Arts and the Royal Academy of Dancing. Recently completing a classical performance degree at Elder Conservatorium she is currently studying Jazz performance and Composition. A keen performer of contemporary and improvised music she also plays with Adelaide based MIRRA ensemble.

Clarinettist/guitarist Quincy Grant is muti-talented composer and performer who writes and performs in a broad range of musical styles. A prolific composer he receives commissions both locally and abroad. As clarinettist he has performed and recorded with both Kidney Art Ensemble and Fresh Air.

Bassist Harley Gray is currently a member of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. He was introduced to and fell in love with the music of tango whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music in London. An already established Classical performer, he found the elements of improvisation and dance inherent in tango music a refreshing medium. A talented and versatile performer, Harley plays regularly with various Adelaide ensembles.

Having recently finished a sell-out season in the Adelaide Fringe Festival with the theatre production 'Salon de Tango', Quartito Azul collaborates regularly with dances from both Adelaide and Melbourne. The quartet has performed widely in Adelaide, including performances at the 'Famous Speigeltent', as well as corporate functions, openings and festivals.

A band that re-creates the changing moods of tango, Quartito Azul bring to life the atmosphere of this Argentinean style.

"Quartito Azul carve a fresh world of darkness and dance."

"Lose yourself in the rich rhythm of Tango."

We look forward to hearing from you.
